Stampin' Addicts New Catalog Mega Blog Hop Grunge Rock

Welcome Stamping Friends!

You've likely arrived from Sara's Lily's Ink Pad blog where you saw Sara's super cute designs with the Every Little Bit set.  Should you get lost or want to chat about the blog hop, visit the Blog Hop Chat Thread on Stampin'  Addicts for a list of all the participating blogs in order.

I was lucky enough to get to use the Grunge Rock stamp set for my projects.  This set is a ton of fun for all ages I think.

First I decided to show a couple of "bling" options for essentially the same Pear Pizzazz and Blushing Bride colored gatefold card. On the left is the Cleaner version happily blinged with the new Basic Rhinestones which would be cute for a quick class.  On the right, I added a Vintage brad, cut out the electric guitar and frayed the Blushing Bride ribbon for a funky embellishment fit for a rockin' girl.  I used the faux Rock N Roll technique (faux=rather than rolling on an ink pad one uses a marker to add color to the edge of the stamp) to add Regal Rose to the edge of the guitar before blinging it up by adding Dazzling Diamonds glitter with Stampin' Up!'s 2-way glue pen.

(The U and sketchy circle on the card on the left are from the Rough Type alpabet in the Summer Mini Catalog. Hurry-they are only available until August 31st!)

Next, I thought I'd show an altered composition book and an embellished magnetic list that a girl could put in her locker for important notes and to keep track of homework (smile). I chose a Melon Mambo, Wild Wasabi, Rich Razzleberry and Marina Mist color scheme because my magnetic list just happened to be Wild Wasabi, and the Marina Mist Pen from convention looked nice with these colors to me. The "ON" stamped in Wild Wasabi is just the NO.1 stamp turned around.  I just inked up the N and O with the Wild Wasabi marker. The ribbons can be positioned at various places in the notebook to mark a spot. For a full explanation of how I stamped and embellished, stop by my blog on Monday.

So are you thinking, "What about the boys?" ?  Since Thursday the 29th would have been Elvis Presley's 75th birthday, I think a rock crown on a masculine card was fitting.  The silver embossed images and the silver cardstock add plenty of bling.

Now it is time to click and continue to the NEXT STOP on our tour in which Yapha will showcase the adorable new Family Business supplement set to the All in the Family set on Rubber Stamping And Card Making with Yapha.

Fourth Tuesday Fun Fold Envelope Pocket Card

Several Stampin' Addicts were chatting that a Fun Fold Technique addition might be fun, so on the 4th Tuesday of each month, a Fun Fold will be posted in the Stampin' Addicts Technique Challenge forum. Here's a link if you'd like to play: http://www.stampinaddicts.com/forums/technique-challenges/5753-fourth-tuesday-fun-fold-tech-1-7-27-10-envelope-pocket-card.html#post299862  (The other Tuesdays in the month will still feature regular techniques.)

For the first Fun Folds challenge, I decided to use the envelope pocket card Stampin' Up! demonstrator friends of mine saw at Convention.  You could also create this look by using regular cardstock, and your cardfront could be just a bit smaller than the envelope shown here.

I used a four-year-old picture of the girls (It matched nicely.) on the inside (Stampin' Up! made an invitation.) and a vintage style color combination of RidingHood Red, Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla and Baja Breeze.  The Very Vanilla 1/8" taffeta is always nice, and the Welcome Christmas Set and Teahouse background furthered the old-timey feel of this card without being embellishment heavy.

Quick Card for August Just Believe

The Just Believe Stampin' Up! set seems like a versatile and useful one to me.   So many uses for techniques and occasions.  I used this set for a card at a class last night, and it will be offered for August Quick Card Class.

The color scheme is River Rock, Wild Wasabi, Marina Mist and Perfect Plum.  To create the card, I inked the stamp in River Rock.  Then, I used a Q-Tip to remove the River Rock from the flower petals.  I added the Marina Mist with a marker onto the flowers, and then added Wild Wasabi on parts of the leaves and on the back side of the violets.  I added Perfect Plum on the edges of the flowers and dabbed the flowers with a fresh Q-Tip for a watercolor smudged look. Quick and Easy!

Stampin' Addicts Technique Challenge #63 Faux Alligator

This easy technique has been used so much for faux purses lately that it hasn't been used much on cards, so here is my little attempt:

1. Coat your cardstock that is to be given the alligator (crocodile) treatment thoroughly with Versamark by patting it onto the Versamark pad.

2. Cover the Versamark with clear embossing powder completely and shake off the excess.

3. Run a bamboo skewer (that's what I used) over the embossing powder in wavy lines in both directions.

4. Shake off the excess powder (which will be clumped up) and heat emboss.

5. Time to finish your card.

Mini Cards and Petal Card Punch Holder (CASEing catalog page 31)

When I saw the cute little boxes made from 2 of the Petal Card punches in the stockings on page 31 of the catalog, I had to try them.  What would a person place inside?  I decided 1"X2" pieces of cardstock folded in half would make adorable cards to put inside the Petal Card envelopes. The Cute by the Inch and Itty Bitty Bits sets are perfectly tiny to use for the cardfronts. Now, what would a person do with these little cards?  Lunchboxes are always a possibility....Maybe put one on a coworker's desk when he or she is having a trying day?

In this picture, you can see the box is made by merely folding three of the edges in and using sticky strip to attach them.  I punched a hole in the top as it appeared to me to be in the catalog and added some crochet thread which I had dyed using a So Saffron reinker to a Vanilla shade. The polka dot print from the Jolly Holiday designer series paper made an easy belly band for it.

MOJO147 Petal Card Punch

This card is for this week's MOJO Monday sketch #147 here: http://mojomonday.blogspot.com/.  I changed it a little to allow the open mini envelopes to be my "ribbon".  I really enjoy the new Petal card Punch which is used to make the envelopes as well as the Cute by the inch set.  I had to add the large floral stamp from Just Believe to give it more interest on the right hand side and I used half of the round stamp from Just Believe at the bottom.  The ink is Old Olive, but the cardstock is Pear Pizzazz (along with Daffodil Delight, Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo) which I think freshens the look.

SACC57 Stamp challenges with us all day Saturday on Stampin' Addicts!

This card is for today's color challenge (CACC57) on Stampin' Addicts. The challenge is Pear Pizzazz, Marina Mist and Early Espresso.
  • Stamps: The Nicest Things,
  • Inks: Black StazON
  • Papers: Watercolor paper, Pear Pizzazz, Marina Mist, Early Espresso,
  • Accessories: Markers, punches, Celery Ribbon, Dimensionals, Aquapainter
Well, of course ~I~ had to buy this set (The Nicest Things, page 71 in the NEW Big Catalog), and I even named this card (I never do that) Emma, Sara and Henry-It had to be done.  Next time, I'll be able to color the little girls' hair a different color and move on-giggle.  This is the card style in which the Pear Pizazz and Early Espresso layer opens from under the Pear Pizzazz scallop (which is raised two dimensionals high) and tucks back under to close the card.  I'm really enjoying using my new stamps, and if you feel like stamping on Saturday.....

Technique Challenge 61 Textured Acetate

Today's challenge on Stampin' Addicts was inspired by Alliohran's Textured Fancy Favor Box. A big THANK YOU to Allison for allowing SA to use it for a technique challenge. What a brilliant idea it is! (The colors were gorgeous too.) Check out her great work and tutorial with this technique on her Sweet Impressions blog here: http://alliohran.blogspot.com/2010/06/stampin-celebration-6.html

To make a card instead:
1. Cut the acetate in half and fold in half again...creasing the fold with a bone folder.

2. Put the front of the card into the embossing folder with the texture pushing outward/raised on the front. If you do it the other way, the card front may curl upward (which doesn't look great). This way it will lie flat/curl downward just a bit.

3. It is difficult to fit the embossing folder into the top of the acetate tightly, so that is an opportunity for a nice ribbon embellishment. (It isn't really far away from the top...3/8 taffeta would also look nice, but I had satin)

4. So it is pretty simple to make a card with this technique, and then just finish it up with some cardstock. A Pear Pizazz layer the same size as the one on the top was used for the inside/signing area of the card.

I will use this technique again with the snowflake die, but I will sand over the snowflakes to create an opaque whiteness at that time-so that's another possibility to try in case you get around to that before I do.

I want to put a new embellishment that I don't have yet at the bottom right--just sayin' if the card looks naked. :)
