Stampin' Up! Pine Tree Punch Paper Piecing Christmas Card Tutorial

I really enjoyed making this card with strips of plaid paper and the tree punch.

First, cover your 6X6 inch piece of Whisper White Cardstock with glue. I used Mono Multi/Green glue.

Next, I added the strips (diagonally on the cardstock) which I had cut to slightly wider than 1/4 inch...I would say they are about 3/8 of an inch wide.  I chose only the patterns I felt were Christmas-y.

Next, I let the papers dry well. I then, trimmed the edges of the plaid paper to allow punching from all sides. Save that paper to use on future pieces.

  • aside: You could also create a small square of the plaid pattern and punch a tree from that as another cool look. You'd simply Punch the tree centered on a square and place it on a green background square.

Then, I used the Tree Punch to punch as many trees as I could from the 6X6 square. After you punch trees in one direction, the trees will fit nicely upside down beside them too.

Finish punching until you've used as much of the paper as possible. I was able to get 11 trees from one pattern paper decorated 6X6 cardstock.

I found I didn't love the areas with a big patch of white space, so I tried to avoid using patterns with those spots the second time around.

Even with using plenty of glue, you may need to re-adhere some small pieces of patterned paper.

OR if the spot without paper is really tiny, you may want to use a Shaded Spruce maker to fill the spot of white on the tip of a branch or side of the trunk.

This card was CASEd from the Stampin' Up! Facebook page, and I believe it was designed by Tammy Wilson. It would be amazing cute with a variety of designer series papers obviously! If you try it, be sure and let me know in the comments or on my Facebook page!

My diagonals aren't all going the same direction. I may decide to change it to a tree that is the same as the other two ~or~ I might not. :D
